Another FIRST

It was a nice relaxing weekend, complete with time with both family and friends...not to mention, lots of cuddle time, play time on a giant pallet that comes out only on the weekends, and, of course, lots of rock-a-bye baby time.  BUT, we did do one BIG thing this weekend...but you will have to read more to find out just what!
Friday night we went to Kaimi and Curt's for some grilled fajitas, yummy!  Kaimi spoils us!  I did contribute the rice, tortillas, and hot sauce...or should I say, Taco Cabana did. ;)  We got a few hours of play time in, too!  We had plans to return on Saturday night to watch Will, Kate, and Collin so they could go out for their 5 year anniversary, but a down pour decided to come, so we postponed for next weekend.  We cannot wait for our play date!
Resting up on the way to Rockwall!

Suds up!  Maddie got a little Saturday morning bath this weekend.  See, she loves the water now.  Even during her very first bath she LOVED having her hair washed...as you can see, she lets mommy have fun styling those sweet little locks...
On Saturday, we also went to have lunch with my dear friend Calvin from medical school.  He graduated with me but took two years off of his surgical residency to do research, so he is now a 4th year resident...so thankful that is NOT me!  But, he is doing well in Houston and is thinking that he wants to pursuit a fellowship in colorectal surgery.  I am still trying to talk him into coming to Dallas and joining a group with me later!  It was so nice to see him and  catch up.  Especially since catching up involved pecan crusted chicken at my favorite restaurant, Celebrations.  I made him promise he would call every time he came to Dallas!
After this point, the flood gates opened!  So we just stayed home, played on our pallet, and enjoyed the sounds of God's blessing to a dry earth.

Sunday we headed to church.  I had felt a little under the weather Saturday to begin with...oh the little hiccups of breastfeeding (but I would have it no other way).  So we decided to just go to church and not class.  Madelyn did better in church this week...I actually got to sit in the pew for half of the sermon.  Poor girl, she cannot help it that this time is her nap time.  Oh, if only she could sleep in a crowd.  There are just too many interesting things to see!  The second I took her to the nursery and turned down the lights, she was out.  The good news is they have a speaker, so I was able to hear the sermon, as I rocked her.  Ahhh, you cannot beat that...
Baby girl before church.
"To be good at church or not, that is the question?"

And of course, why play with the 4 toys we brought with us when you have satin ties on your shoes?
"Is anyone looking?"
 "Coast is clear!"
"What?"  How could we ever get mad at that face?!
After church it was nap time for us.  It felt so good, especially since I had not been feeling well and Maddie is still enjoying waking up 2-3 times per night for a little night time snack.

Well, I went ahead and bit the bullet and agreed to feed Madelyn her first meal other than from yours truly.  Well, it was about 80% me, but still...
Getting the supplies ready.
Her own little spoon, ahhh, makes my heart melt.  Sweet Allie and Ben gave us that for our shower.
"Ok, ready to get this show on the road!"
A little appetizer while waiting...
This picture is so Maddie...constantly surveying the room she is!  She later discovered the flower behind her, so those had to be removed so she would focus on the task at hand...
Daddy is mixing up the rice cereal...
I offered Robert the opportunity to give Maddie her first bite, since I got the honor of feeding her first when she was born ;)  But, he was a gentleman and let ladies go first...so I took it!
Robert was chomping at the bit to get a try, too.  He was honestly the most excited for this...if you cannot tell! :)

It took a few bites, she wasn't quite sure about it at first.  This was actually a surprise to us, as she had been watching us eat oh so intently for a few weeks.
 Getting warmed up...
We actually took a break and ate to see if this would spark an interest...and what do you know?!  She wanted to be a big girl, too!
What big eyes you have...the better to see you with my dear...
Now she's having fun!  Girlfriend didn't look back from this point!

Going for it with the right....
 Now the left...
Forget it, who needs a spoon!?

First meal a success!! She had a ball that is for sure, and so did we.  I was actually hoping that a little rice cereal would help baby girl finally sleep through the night...but unfortunately that old wives tale did not pan out for us. :(  Yep, three times again last night...oh, what it would be to sleep five hours straight.  Oh well, I'll sleep when I'm retired I guess.  Until then, I'll cherish every moment that I get to rock and hear the sweet little sighs of my angel, no matter if is 10pm, 2am, or 4am!  (I call her my Dr. Pepper baby...you know, the times to have a Dr. Pepper...10, 2 and 4!)  Ok , maybe you have to be from a town close to Dublin, Texas to get that one!
And with that, we said good bye to our weekend.  Until the next...
Monday morning it is...Happy week!

Weekend in Comanche

This weekend is one of the many reminders I have of how thankful I am to be back home!  I LOVE being able to hop in the car and be home in under three hours.  I think I have been home more in the last 3 months than I did my last 3 years of residency!  And best of all...NO plastic zip lock bags when packing anymore! :)

We went home this weekend for a wedding...and another excuse to see our dear Nana and Papa!  Maddie already knows the sweet lines and curves of their faces and baby girl lights up as much as I do when she sees them now!

Mom's birthday was coming up so we decided to have a little pre-celebration at none other than her favorite restaurant....Mi Familia!  I made her promise she would not cook on her birthday weekend...she, of course, did not mind me!
Waiting on the food...our little hot tamale kept us occupied!
She then opened her present,  poor Maddie tapped out for this, she was already long gone for the night.  The Covington Crew couldn't make it this weekend so it didn't quite feel the same, but we will celebrate officially next weekend with the whole gang!

Sweet Mama and Daddy.

One of my high school friends got married this weekend on Saturday night.  It was an outdoor wedding and the weather turned out to be perfect despite raining the days prior.  It was so nice catching up with friends I hadn't seen in years.  Maddie did great in the ceremony, no loud talking like she often likes to do during quiet times! :)
My wedding dates...someone looks excited for some Joe Allen's bar-b-que!
Enjoying some Nana time.

Pics at the "photo booth"

 Maddie got to meet Joel...
So nice to see these two, such a sweet couple.

About to head out for the night...we had such a nice evening!

Headed to church on Sunday.  Maddie did much better this Sunday...or maybe it was the fact that Nana took her and held her all sermon, so I actually got to listen to a full sermon for the first time in months!

My little mischievous Maddie!
And she got it!  Like I said, my little grabber!
Ahhh, there is my angel...
Sad to see our weekend go...but living so close, it is not good bye, it is see you later!
On our way home...girlfriend is really good in the car...when she gets to play with mommy on her pillow! ;)  Don't worry, Robert snapped this while waiting on our Sonic drinks in Stephenville not while driving!
