What a roller coaster week! It started off fairly normal...then on Wednesday, while in clinic, I got a stat call from the OR saying my partner was taken to the ER after she had a severe allergic reaction...and there was a patient on the table. So I covered her day of cases in the OR as well as her afternoon clinic patients. It was a hectic day for all! Although it was terrible for her, it was nice to recall what being busy is like. Hopefully it won't be too long until I am that busy. Although that day was a little out of the norm to say the least, possibly the worst day of my entire life came Friday morning. We were up early as usual and Robert was gone by 6. I was just out of the shower and putting on my make up with wet hair, none-the-less. I then heard something in the kitchen. Usually, I don't get weirded out by sounds, but for whatever reason, I got scared that day. So I called Robert (scared) and asked, as a reminder, how to turn on the emergent security in the house. After doing so, the alarm went off...I then looked at our cameras and saw this!
Yes, I saw just this, no enhancements have been made! I have done many things that have raised my heart beat in life, you know, level 1 traumas, open a chest in the ICU, my first solo operation, child birth when only half of my epidural took affect...but this took the cake! I wish I could say that I grabbed the gun and headed to the kitchen. But I didn't. I took cover in my closet (yes, very predictable and cliche) and called 911. I must say that I am pretty proud of how clear my head remained. I gave my address faster than I knew I could do and gave a description without even thinking. I was calm (well, as calm as I think I could have been) until Maddie started to cry! I was afraid our cover had been blown at that point. It was then (and only then, sadly) that the gun dawned on me, but thankfully the 911 operator told me to hold still, the police were at my door.
Well, I will save all the details, but we had 6 police men at our home within minutes (though it seemed like hours). And, after a house search that was clear, I realized that when I heard something, I happened to stumble upon an old clip of when the refrigerator repair guy came!!!! I actually told the 911 operator that it was odd that he was in our refrigerator...but I remember thinking, hmmm, it could be a homeless hungry man! Oh, the things that went through my mind! I needed quite a bit of convincing that it was just a clip, but finally we found the time stamp...and we realized that my work computer was not out on the bar the day he was there...and it was that AM. I felt terrible for calling at that point, but I knew that my call was done in all honesty. I have thought about this incident a 1000 times, literally. Not many people get a "test" run...and God gave me just that. I am actually quite thankful for it. You can bet that next time, I will know exactly where that gun is that Robert tried to show my one time. And next time we go to Comanche I am going out for target practice!
I did collect myself in time to make it on time to work...for once I was thankful for the commute so I could compose myself.
I know one thing...I will be sending some donuts to the police station come Monday!
Just thinking about something happening to this little angel still makes my heart race...
On to happier moments...we enjoyed the weekend just being at home and relaxing! Somebody loves breakfast!
And somebody loves her Daddy!
Maddie "showing her muscles"! She also "grrrs" while she does it!
Saturday night dinner...
Enough cooking...somebody wants to go swing!
No...this belly had NOT eaten yet!
Master griller.
I usually don't like to swing (well, I actually do, but I get motion sickness!)...the things I do for this girl!
Sunday morning.
Here's to a nice and UNEVENTFUL week!
