A First Time for Everything...

It has been a whirlwind of a month.  I cannot believe Madelyn has been in our lives for over a month...yet I cannot imagine a life without her now.  It breaks my heart to think about starting back to work in the next couple of days.  But, I look back on this precious, precious month and thank God for the time I had to spend with my little girl...just me and my Maddie.  We mostly had hours and hours of rocking -- and nursing, but there were a few big "firsts"!

FIRST CAR TRIP (on the way home from the hospital).  It was rainy and cold that day, Daddy went extra slow.  The next day we went to Babies'R'Us and got a "Baby on Board" sign for the car so that cars would watch out! :)

Baby girl loves her car seat...sleeps like a baby in it.
FIRST PHOTO SESSION (right after getting home from the hospital).  Daddy was the photographer, he had the patience of Job!  Ahhh, sweet baby, you had better get used to these!

A penny for your thoughts little one?
Still so new...with her hospital band still on...

The tiger has been poked!  She is done with pictures!
Ok...maybe just done with the bow!
Whew, that was work!  Our little burrito all swaddled up with Daddy!

FIRST BATH at HOME.  Let's just say that Maddie did not like it as much as the one she had in the hospital!
Trying to get all those creases!

Moving as fast as we can baby girl.

Oooh, she likes having her hair washed!
Free kisses!
Still a little mad it looks like.
Thank goodness for short term memory! :)
All three are glad that is over!

Finally!  Snug as a little bug...our sweet little bug.
Night night.

FIRST TRIP TO THE DOCTOR (two days after getting home, Thursday April 11, 2013).  We had an appointment soon after discharge just to make sure she was gaining weight appropriately.  And boy was she ever!  She left the hospital weighing in at 5 pounds 12 ounces, and in two days she had already gained two ounces.  She was right on track to gain her birth weight back at her next appointment.  Somebody likes her "cream shakes"!
Getting dressed...this dress belonged to Cousin Kate, we love it, thank you!
It takes a small team...
Brushing that wild hair!
Any pretty package needs a bow!
All ready to go!

There's always a little time to snuggle with Nana.  Nana got to come to her first appointment, too!  Lots of people love this little girl.
"I'm going where?!?"

After all that work to dress her...now undressed, which clearly she prefers.
Proud mommy and daddy.

FIRST TRIP to GROCERY STORE.  We went to WalMart and Sam's Club...diapers were already on the list!  Baby girl did not make a peep the entire time!  Everywhere we go people ask us about our infant carrier (no doubt we are toting a little girl-y girl!).  Nana got this for Katie-belle and then Kate gave it to us...Nana got her money's worth!

FIRST TIME to PLAY in the JUNGLE!  Madelyn is such an alert little one!  She is awake a lot and those big brown eyes constantly roam the room looking for something new.  She loves her little jungle gym...once she laid eyes on it there was no going back!

FIRST GAME to WATCH with DADDY.  Well, sadly, I must admit it was for the OKLAHOMA Thunder.  Yes, it has been the NBA playoffs for what seems an eternity!  She seems about as enthused as her mama.  Let's rest assured that will be her only non-Texas team she will cheer for! :)

FIRST TRIP to CHURCH.  Well, we spent most of the time in the nursery (Maddie decided she wanted to eat just as we pulled into the parking lot).  But all in all, we survived the first week...there will be plenty more times to practice.  She will be singing "Jesus Loves Me" in no time!

Our first time to church was when she was two weeks old...Happy 2 weeks sweet baby girl!

We did good to get these pictures...church wiped her out, here's to a good Sunday afternoon nap!

FIRST STROLL OUTSIDE.  Baby girl was born in April, so you would think warm, pretty spring weather, right?!  Well, we are in Iowa, so that does not always apply!  The winter has trudged on this year, so it was not until her one month birthday that baby girl got to see the beautiful sun!

Mommy had a first, too!  FIRST BOTTLE of PUMPED MILK. :)

It is sad to think that our first month together has come and gone, but, Lord willing, I am grateful for many, many more months to come with this little one!
