Madelyn In the Making

How could anyone ever doubt there was a God in Heaven when you start with this

6 week ultrasound.  We heard her little heart beating for the first time.

And get this in only 40 weeks!  I absolutely love this picture, she is brand new, fresh out of the oven!

We were very surprised to say it in the least when we found out we were pregnant.  I know the high sensitivity of modern day pregnancy tests, but that did not stop me from checking 3, ok maybe 4, times!  But, I have now learned that the best things in life are often unplanned.

I tried to be diligent in recording my baby bump, there were a few missed weeks, especially when I was on call for the weekend.
12 weeks.
14 weeks.
15 weeks.  Still feeling good, am I really pregnant?!  My cravings were mild, but I did have a thing for grapes and dried mangos!
17 weeks.  This was about the time I got a little sick, not from being pregnant, just a viral gastroenteritis I am quiet sure.  So I actually lost a little weight here.  It came back with a vengeance though!  I was interviewing for a fellowship up until this time.  I was getting very nervous my suit would not fit...but I completed my interviews in the nick of time, no need for a new suit, thank goodness!
19 weeks. This is the week that we formally had an ultrasound and found out that we were having a little girl.  My heart was full...I had always dreamed of having a daughter to love.  But, I must admit, my curiosity got the best of me and I used our ICU ultrasound to look at around 16 weeks and had a very good idea we were having a little girl. :)
20 weeks, half way!  I was dressed to go to our annual resident Christmas party here...by the end of the night this was a little tighter than I recalled when I put it on.  Needless to say, this was the last time I wore this dress!
21 weeks.   Visiting home for Thanksgiving.  This is the week I recall that my belly became more noticeable in regular clothes.  I had a little bit longer before I became apparent at work...thank goodness for scrubs!
24 weeks -- yep, definitely a bump, no sucking this in!
25 weeks on December 25th!  It was around this time that there was no hiding my bump in scrubs...so I started telling people at work.  I waited a while to tell, mainly because I felt good and just wanted to work like a "normal" resident. haha
27 weeks.  After a New Year's meal with black eyed peas...I added those to my list of cravings!
28 weeks.
32 weeks.
35 weeks.

Ultrasound at 36 weeks...we saw this face and couldn't wait!

We knew girlfriend was going to have some hair...woohoo, the bows were already out and ready!

Still a girl...thank goodness, or those bows were going to waste!
I love her little profile.
38 weeks.  I was hoping Maddie would come around this time, as you can see God had different plans.  Still wearing heels though!
39 weeks. Getting more miserable at work...long days in the OR really helped my swelling, thank goodness for TED hose! :) At 39 weeks 6 days, I went to put on shoes to go out to dinner and they left an imprint!  I remember thinking, I cannot do another day, and God saw to it that I didn't!
My favorite of all...40 weeks on the dot!
